From the Grand Prix to Hunter Derbies, HITS Chicago has it All!

The Showplace Spring Spectacular Series is a wrap! From great competition to sponsor parties, and the transformation that Balmoral Park has undergone, exhibitors were thrilled to be back at HITS Chicago for the June Series. Balmoral Park offers a full slate of Hunter and Jumper competition with everything from Lead line to Grand Prix and Hunter Derbies. Check out some of the highlights from Week II & III of the Showplace Spring Spectacular competition at HITS Chicago.
Week II Highlights
Lisa Goldman-Smolen kicked off Week II of the Showplace Spring Spectacular Series with a one-two finish in the $10,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Open Welcome. Goldman-Smolen took home top honors in a time of 29.946 aboard NIKE.

2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & HINDSIGHT (30.188)
3rd Place: Adeline Rohrbach & VALLADAM (30.665)

Taking home the blue ribbon in the $20,000 HITS Jumper Prix on Friday was Charlie Jayne for his ride aboard TOU LA MOON in a time of 33.836.

2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & HINDSIGHT (34.671)
3rd Place: David Jennings & SKAT 15 (35.963)
Jennings would move up in the placings on Saturday with CENDATUS PS in the $5,000 Marshall & Sterling Jumper Classic. A time of 28.104 would secure the blue ribbon for this team.

2nd Place: Liz Atkins & RODEO VDL (29.000)
3rd Place: Jennings & BLUE MOON 22 (29.524)

Alexandra Markarian and BANDRO took home the blue ribbon in the $2,500 NAL Jr/A-O/Am 1.25m Jumper Classic.

Taking home top honors in the $5,000 Chicago Equine Jr/A-O/Am 1.35m Jumper Classic was Erin Haas aboard HAGELIN.

Kyle Perkovich claimed the first place ribbon in the $7,500 SmartPak Jr/A-O/Am 1.40m Jumper Classic for his ride aboard HIT ME VAN’T ZORGVLIET.

Sunday’s lineup of featured classes concluded with the $40,000 Adequan Grand Prix. Goldman-Smolen would once again take two of the top placings with the only two double clear rounds in the class. To secure top honors Goldman-Smolen and NIKE would cross the timers in 34.910.

2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & SOVEREIGN (35.236)
3rd Place: Jennings & SKAT 15 (31.488, 4-Faults)
 
Douglas Boyd took home top honors in the $2,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix for his ride aboard CALIDO’S SON. With high scores of 90 and 92 in the respective rounds, Boyd secured the blue ribbon and lion’s share of the prize money with an overall score of 182.

2nd Place: Valerie Kalderon & ZIGGY STARDUST (171)
3rd Place: Rachel Lindsey & ETIQUETTE (158)
Taking home the blue ribbon in the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby was Abigail Dvorak-Peat and FORTUNE FAVORS with a score of 88 in the first round and 86 in the second round for a two-round total of 178.

2nd Place: Laura Stern & HILTON (172)
3rd Place: Ryan Sassmannshausen & SCREEN SHOT (168)

 
Week III Highlights
Goldman-Smolen started of Spring Spectacular III on the right foot with another one-two finish in the $10,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Open Welcome.  The win came aboard BENGTSSON VDL, clearing the timers in 37.478.

2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & HINDSIGHT (37.716)
3rd Place: Jayne & GRANDE DAME (37.200)
Taking home top honors in Friday’s $20,000 AIG Jumper Prix was Perkovich for his ride aboard HIT ME VAN’T ZORGVLIET. As the last to go in the class, Perkovich gave it his all to secure the blue ribbon and a time of 37.728 would do just that.

2nd Place: Jayne & TOU LA MOON (38.182)
3rd Place: Jennings & CADDIE R (38.187)

Jennings finished first and second in the $5,000 Marshall & Sterling Jumper Classic. He took home the blue ribbon aboard AVENTADOR in a time of 30.597.

2nd Place: Jennings & BLUE MOON 22 (31.470)
3rd Place: Rohrbach & RARITY (31.892)

Laura Linback claimed the blue ribbon in the $2,500 NAL Jr/A-O/Am 1.25m Jumper Classic aboard CARMINA.

Taking home the top honors in the $5,000 Chicago Equine Jr/A-O/Am 1.35m Jumper Classic was Perkovich and ROCSCALLA.

Rohrbach would secure the blue ribbon in the $7,500 SmartPak Jr/A-O/Am 1.40m Jumper Classic aboard VALLADAM.

Beth Underhill jumped her way to the Winner’s Circle aboard COUNT ME IN in the $50,000 Boehringer Ingelheim Grand Prix. With an untouchable time of 35.653, Underhill secured the blue ribbon and lion’s share of the prize money.

2nd Place: Goldman-Smolen & SOVEREIGN (37.227)
3rd Place: Michael Burnett & CHAGRAND (37.556)
 
Showplace Spring Spectacular III also featured the AIG Derby Jubilee and put the spotlight on the USHJA International Derby, National Derby and Pony Hunter Derby in a grand finale to the June Series. 
Kelley Farmer took home the blue ribbon in the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby aboard CLOSING STATEMENT. Farmer scored a 175 in the first round, followed by the high score of round two, a 202, for an overall score of 377.

2nd Place: Boyd & CALIDO’S SON (367)
3rd Place: Jennings & THE FULL MONTY (362)
Top honors in the $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby were awarded to Taylor Holstead and ROC’S ALL THAT, coming in with scores of 88 and 90 for a total of 178.

2nd Place: Sassmannshausen & SCREEN SHOT (175)
3rd Place: Lindsey & MTM OPENING BELL (166)

It was a special week for the pony exhibitors with the $2,500 USHJA Pony Hunter Derby taking place. The blue ribbon was awarded to Lacy Lee Crannell and HALISKO with scores of 81 and 77 in her two rounds for a total score of 158.

2nd Place: Hallie Moss & BIRTLEY’S CROWNED JEWEL (156)
3rd Place: Taylor Landstrom & CAPTAIN AMERICA (155)

Improving on her second place finish at Spring Spectacular II, Lindsey and FABELED took home the blue ribbon in the $2,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix. Lindsey would score an 84 in round one and a 79 in round two for an overall score of 163).

2nd Place: Ella Reinauer & UNANIMOUS (162)
3rd Place: Savannah Talcott & CHICAGO STYLE (153)
 
With the Summer Series at HITS Chicago just around the corner, don’t forget to check the qualifying points and nominate your green hunter for the HITS Championship! The Stal Hendrix Green Hunter Futurity guarentees $25,000 in prize money PLUS all nominating fees! The HITS Championship is held annually during Week VIII of the HITS Saugerties Series.

The USHJA National Hunter Derby counts as a qualifying class for Junior and Amateur riders towards the Platinum Performance Hunter Prix Finals and the Devocoux as a qualifying class for the Diamond Mills Hunter Prix Finals. Both Hunter Prix Finals are also held at the HITS Championship. For more information on the Finals, please visit the HITS Championship page.
