Caroline Weeden and Spellbound Capture Performance 3’6” Hunters Championship at Lamplight Spring Classic II

Wayne, Ill. – May 18, 2023 – Professional hunters once again kicked off the week at HITS Chicago as riders returned for the second week of the Lamplight Spring Classic. The Performance 3’6” Hunter divisions took center stage, where Caroline Weeden had a standout week aboard Spellbound. The duo took home two blues over fences on their way to the division's championship title.

“We got Spellbound from Spencer Smith when he was 5, and we actually named him after Smith and call him ‘Spencer’ at home ” explained Weeden about the 9-year-old Westphalian gelding owned by Stephanie Harris. “Spellbound is 9 now, and he always produces and goes so nicely– He’s just super fun to ride and have in the stable.”

Weeden and Spellbound had five stellar performances in the Performance 3’6” Hunter division, respectfully placing first in two  of the over fences classes as well as the under saddle, and earning second place ribbons to capture the championship tricolor. The reserve championship went to Sarah Duhon and Speechless, who won two over fences classes and also earned two red ribbons in the division.

Spellbound wow’d the judges this week and Weeden was thrilled with his rounds each day. “Although he requires a lot of leg, he knows his job and does it well,” said Weeden after earning the championship title. “Stephanie Harris will be competing with him in the Amateur-Owner 3’3” Hunters and they make quite a wonderful pair together”

As a nearby resident, Caroline is thrilled to be back and competing at HITS Chicago this season. “It’s absolutely beautiful here – the scenery is just unmatched,” she concluded. “It’s also so amazing to be able to be close enough to go home every night. It’s such a privilege to have this stunning venue in our backyard.”

Hunter action at Lamplight Equestrian Center will continue over the next week of the Spring Classic Series as part of the full HITS Chicago Series, which runs through September at the world-class facility.
