Attention Children’s and AA Jumpers: There’s Still Time to Register Before USHJA Regional Championships Deadline

SAUGERTIES, NY (July 3, 2014) – Children’s and Adult Amateur riders jumped into the spotlight last year in the USHJA Regional Championships, which will shine again in 2014. HITS, Inc. is proud to host both the South Championships (August 22-24) at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia and North Championships (September 4-6) at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York.

Act now – it’s not too late to register for either event! The completed USHJA application and $30 fee is due no later than July 8 for South Region competitors and July 21 for the North Region. The qualifying period ends on the application deadline, but all accumulated points will count if a rider is registered by the deadline.

Riders interested in representing their zone at the Regional Championships, should view the rider application, USHJA specifications and qualifying criteria. Riders may accumulate points at any USEF licensed event where children’s and adult amateur jumper classes are held at 3'6” or 1.10m -1.15m, but may not compete in any jumper class higher than 1.20m during the qualifying period.

Held under an international format over a three-day period, the USHJA Regional Championships offers participants an experience and format similar to competing at a Nations Cup.  “The inaugural year was extremely successful and enthusiastically supported, with more than 400 riders applying and 185 taking part from throughout the country,” said Meghan Carney, USHJA Director of Jumper Programs. “We were thrilled with the response and look forward to building upon that success in 2014.”

Children’s and adult amateur riders from Zones 3 and 4 will be welcomed by the newly renovated Commonwealth Park, August 22-24, during the Constitution Classic, the second of a two-week series of shows in Culpeper.  For a preview of the improvements click here.

The North Championship – Zones 1, 2 and 5 – will run September 4-6, at the HITS Championship in Saugerties, highlighting competition for children’s and adult amateur jumper riders during the world’s richest week in show jumping.

“Our goal is to offer prestigious competition for riders at every level and these Championships fulfill that vision,” said Tom Struzzieri, president and CEO of HITS Horse Shows. “They also bolster the development of tomorrow’s stars, and we are excited to work with USHJA on encouraging Olympic and international riders of tomorrow.”
