Week III of the Vermont Summer Series has Concluded!

The third week of competition at the Vermont Summer Festival is a wrap in beautiful Manchester. Exhibitors and horses capped off a successful week in the Hunter and Jumper show rings to continue the six-week Summer show series. The Manchester Summer Classic was host to USEF Premier/4* Rated competition that featured a, $2,500 NEHJA Hunter Derby, $25,000 SmarkPak Grand Prix, $40,000 HITS Grand Prix presented by the Kimpton Taconic Hotel, and the exciting World Championship Hunter Rider Week.. Continue reading for a glimpse at the winners!

In the first featured Jumper class of the week on Wednesday, Willie Tynan continued last week’s theme and kicked off the competition on top. Tynan rode two horses in the $5,000 Manchester Designer Outlets Open Welcome, presented by Armani Outlet, and was awarded first on KEC CITY LIMITS from Red Barn Farm. He stopped the timers at an impressive 33.380 seconds. His runner up, Hird crossed the finish just over one second behind.

In Friday's 25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, Tynan secured the winning spot and added another blue ribbon to his bridle. Tynan rode KEC CITY LIMITS first in the line-up, as previously done at the $5,000 Manchester Designer Outlets Open Welcome two days prior. Tynan and KEC CITY LIMITS were among the eleven horses who made it to the jump-off round. Tynan held an exceedingly strong lead and finished in an expeditious 34.528 seconds.

  • 3rd Place: Kevin Mealiff & ARISTOT [36.805]

 

 

Mealiff concluded the week in Vermont on top with a one-three finish in Sunday's $40,000 HITS Grand Prix.  He and ARISTOT, owned by Elle Haymond, topped the seven-horse jump-off and set the leading time of 34.697 seconds as the first to go. With two horses entered in Sunday’s Grand Prix, Mealiff finished fault-free on both. His second horse, UCCELO DE WILL, of Oakland Ventures LLC, crossed the finish in 37.638 seconds and took third on the leaderboard.

The $2,500 NEHJA Hunter Derby was hosted on Friday where Shaine Brooks and MASERATI VDL, owned by Paris Levy, earned a score of 84.5 in the first round and continued to enthuse the judges throughout the second. Brooks received a handy round score 87, for an overall total of 171.5. Brooks presented a very poised, and smooth-riding performance, securing the winning position by 1.5 points.

  • 3rd Place: Hillary Rheinheimer & LONE STAR [167.5]

On Saturday, Miela Gross and DARK N’ STORMY, owned by Kim Sieurin, finished their first round of the $1,000 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix with 81 points. Gross, who was placed second after her first ride, needed to complete the second round with an 84 or higher to trump the ring. Her second trip earned her a top score of 85, which bumped her into the lead. Gross showcased phenomenal horsemanship and finished with a total of 166.5 points, trotting out of the ring with a blue ribbon.

 The Vermont Summer Festival continues this week at the Valley Classic (IV) featuring a $2,500 NEHJA Hunter Derby, $1,000 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix, $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, and a $40,000 HITS Grand Prix presented by Hampton Inn and Suites Manchester. Don't miss out on the exciting competition to come!

The Series will offer an all-inclusive schedule of hunter, jumper, and equitation classes, including its popular “Equitation Tuesday” program. Featured classes will include TWO Grand Prix each week as well as weekly NEHJA Hunter Derbies which will also be qualifiers for the Diamond Mills Hunter Prix Final at the HITS Championship.
 

 

The six-week USEF Premier/4*-Rated Vermont Summer Festival offers a boutique-style horse show just outside picturesque Manchester, Vermont, July 7 - August 15.
