HITS-on-the-Hudson Kicks-off
The HITS Saugerties Spring Series kicked off with beautiful weather and great competition. With new FEI CSI2* competition, qualifiers for the HITS Championship and myriad property updates, HITS-on-the-Hudson welcomed exhibitors and received rave reviews to start the year.
"It was nice to see all of the improvements at the showgrounds. The fencing is beautiful and paving the roads for the vehicles and golf carts really made a difference. I think this show is definitely trend."
- Bethie Dayton
Red Oak Farm, Owner and Trainer

"It's so pretty here and the place looks great!"
 - Gavin Moylan
Gavin Moylan Stables, Owner and FEI Rider

"My daughter loves it here, she says it's just like summer camp! This is our favorite show in the Northeast. The improvements look great, especially the new fencing and paved roads!."
 - Scott Tarter
Twin Lakes Farm, Owner

"John and I were at HITS the weekend of May 26 and the improvements management has made to the showgrounds were noteworthy! The rejuvenated footing, the new Adirondack styled VIP area, new fencing around all the rings, resurfacing of the bridle paths, barn aisles and stall floors are a few of the significant changes that have been implemented. I commend for making these improvements for all to enjoy!"
 - Missy Clark
North Run, Owner
The FEI division started on Friday with the $35,700 SmartPak FEI CSI2* Welcome where nine would return for the jump-of, all in the hunt for the blue ribbon and lion's share of prize money. Securing first place in the class was Alberto Michan and COSA NOSTRA in a time of 37.75.

2nd Place: David Raposa & MIC JAGGER (38.84)
3rd Place: Michael Hutchinson & NEKTARINA B (39.32)
“We bought her when she was four and my brother rode her until she turned eight," said Michan of the bay Dutch Warmblood mare. "Last year a group of people bought her for me to have and ride. The idea for her is to go jump all of the big classes and hopefully the Championships in future years. She’s just nine this year and she will be jumping around the US, doing the Grand Prix and I am very excited," he continued. "I think she is a special horse and has a lot of quality - she wants to do her job.”
Sunday’s $50,000 HITS FEI CSI2* Grand Prix was featured in the Wilmington Trust Grand Prix Stadium under blue skies and bright sunshine on a perfect spring day. Just seconds would differentiate the placings of the five who returned for the jump-off, but none were fast enough to catch Tomas Yofre whose time of 38.34 aboard DASINO secured the win.

“DASINO is owned by Peacock Ridge Farm so I have to say thank you to them for letting me ride him," exclaimed Yofrre. "I have been riding him [DASINO] for about six months and have been showing him a lot, so I know him quite well. He is amazing – just so fast and careful," he said. "We’ve had some good results at other horse shows, but today was my day.”

2nd Place: Jonathan McCrea & FANTASY BB (38.60)
3rd Place: Coco Fath & EXOTIK SITTE (38.72)

The National Open Jumper Division started with the $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Open Welcome where no one could catch Laura Chapot and UMBERTO. Chapot has always been known for his speed and she set a remarkable winning margin of more than five seconds, as she passed the timers with a clean round in 39.952.

2nd Place: Kevin Mealiff & EVER D’HOOGPOORT (45.091)
3rd Place: Mealiff & ILIANO VAN D’ABELENDREEF (45.468)

Chapot's dominance in the National Division continued with a one -two finish in the $10,000 HITS Jumper Classic on Thursday where she captured first place with OUT OF IRELAND in 34.721.

2nd Place: Chapot & CALAFORNIA (35.069)
3rd Place: Grace Allen & RIVAGE DE LORMAY (35.901)

Jennifer Jones ended Chapot's streak on Friday in the $10,000 Saugerties Steamboat Jumper Classic. Jones made her way into the Winner’s Circle aboard ILIONA with a clear round in 28.051.

2nd Place: Chapot & ZEALOUS (28.416)
3rd Place: Chapot & SHOOTING STAR (28.501)
The National Jumper Division wrapped up Saturday with the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix where Chapot returned to winning form aboard OUT OF IRELAND. As the last to jump-off, they would race through the timers in 38.393 to capture the blue ribbon.

2nd Place: Mealiff & ILIANO VAN D’ABELENDREEF (39.238)
3rd Place: Mealiff & VIPER VROMBAUTSHOEVE Z (39.441)

The Devoucoux hunter Prix and Platinum Performance Prix, both qualifiers for the HITS Championship, were featured on the expansive Outside Course at HITS Saugerties, as riders continue to earn qualifying points in these classes at all HITS Shows.
Scores were tight in the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix with the top-three separated by just 1.5 points. Morgan Ward and CARPEDI took top honors with scores of 86 in the first round and an 83 in the second round for a total of 169. Though just a one-point margin, their scores held on for the win.

2nd Place: Kahle & HALIFAX (168)
3rd Place: Jones & VIRGO DC (167.5)

Karen Arrigoni would have the highest scores in both rounds of the $1,500 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix aboard LYRICAL. Two strong rounds with scores of 86 and 87 gave her a commanding victory in the first qualifier at HITS Saugerties this season.

2nd Place: Corinne Milbury & SUNSHINE (166)
3rd Place: Alexandra Beyrer & EL DORADO HC (165)
