Block around the clock! HITS Saugerties Block Party to feature free outdoor concert at the intersection of Main and Partition Street

SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK (May 19, 2008)---HITS-on-the-Hudson hits the Village of Saugerties when the HITS Saugerties Block Party takes the stage on Saturday, June 14 from 6 pm to 10 pm.

The showcase of the event will be a performance by the popular band POWERHOUSE from 7 pm to 9 pm. The band will play at the intersection of Main and Partition Street and feature tunes ranging from The Beatles to Stevie Wonder.

"A good band can play two or three music genres," said bandleader George Spencer, Jr. "A great band may be able to play four or five, but our band plays Funk, Soul, Old School, Motown, R&B, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, and anything in-between. That's what makes us a great band!"

Both Main and Partition Streets will be closed to traffic for the HITS Saugerties Block Party which will be the grand finale of the spring series of horse shows. "It's a fabulous idea," said Village of Saugerties Mayor Bob Yerick. "I hope all of the shops on Main and Partition Street will take advantage of this opportunity. They can really showcase what this village has to offer."

Local merchants are being encouraged to stay open late and provide fun and entertainment in their stores. DIG Owners Van and Daisy Bolle are extremely excited about the event and are even planning to have a DJ in front of their trendy clothing boutique on Partition Street.

"As a business owner on Partition Street, we get tons of HITS traffic in our store during the evening when the HITS horse shows are in town, " said Van Bolle. "It will be a great opportunity for all of the local merchants to stay open late and get some of the HITS business that our store benefits from."

Before the band takes the stage, a special Grand Prix rider autograph session will take place from 6 pm to 7 pm. Todd Minikus, a former member of the United States Olympic Team is already scheduled to participate, as he will be competing at HITS Saugerties this spring.

Both Main and Partition Streets will be decorated with actual jumps that are used in the show ring. Block Party activities include ponies from Vertical Limit Stables, bounce house courtesy of M&T Bank and an on-site broadcast by HITS Saugerties' Official Radio Station The Wolf 94.3/97.3. Many of the participating merchants are busy planning special family-focused activities for the evening.

The HITS Saugerties Block Party is free and all are welcome to attend. For more information on the HITS Saugerties Block Party, please call HITS' Director of Special Events Chris Mayone at 845.246.8833 or e-mail Chris@HitsShows.com

Show jumping for the HITS Saugerties Spring Series of horse shows begins Wednesday, May 28 and runs through Sunday, June 15 from 8 am to approximately 5 pm during a horse show week. On Thursdays some of the top competitors in the country will look to earn the lion's share of prize money during the $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix and on Sunday afternoons the stakes are higher as riders and horses vie for $50,000 in prize money.

Admission at the horse show for adults during the week is free and is just $5 on weekends. Children are always admitted free. Once again, all of the proceeds from the gate go directly to Family of Woodstock, Inc. so visitors can feel good that their participation in the horse show is helping a great organization that serves the surrounding community.

HITS, Inc. is a special events management company primarily focused on producing hunter/jumper horse shows. Based in upstate New York in the village of Saugerties, HITS produced its first horse show circuit in Gainesville, Florida in 1982.
