TUCSON, AZ (March 5, 2008)—Peter Bulthuis and his mount Medoc 36 captured the blue ribbon in Sunday's $25,000 HITS Grand Prix to conclude the Sahuro Classic at HITS Arizona.
Bulthuis got the best of 22
pairs in the first round and five combinations in the jump-off to score
$7,500 in prize money. He had the ride for owner Janet Hischer.
The winning combination
left little suspense when they went clear on the first trip of the
jump-off and set the Great American Time to Beat at 34.751. As it
turned out, their clean round would be the only fault-free effort of
the jump-off.
"I knew the people behind me were all risk takers," said Bulthuis. "I
wanted to go in and be safe because that was my best chance to win.
When I saw rail after rail drop, I knew it was going to be an easy win."
Second to challenge the route were Brandie Halloway and her horse Argentina. The pair had four faults and secured third place for Hays Investment Corp. Next to go were Allison Kropf and her ride Nomograff. The pair dropped one rail and had to settle for second place.
Fourth to challenge were Gary Brewster and his mount Watermark. They had an unlucky rail down midway through the course to finish in fourth place.
Sitting in the last-to-ride spot was Holloway, this time aboard Gabriella Z. The pair had two rails down and finished the day in fifth place.
Show jumping will resume at HITS Arizona on Wednesday, March 5 with the
Arizona Winter Festival featuring the $25,000 Central Equine Grand Prix
scheduled for Sunday, March 9. The Arizona Desert Finals close out the
2008 HITS Arizona Circuit, March 12-16 featuring the $25,000
Strongid® C 2X™ Grand Prix on Sunday, March 16.
The six-week event has been
a staple of West Coast circuits for many years. HITS took over
production of the circuit in 1991. The HITS Arizona Winter Circuit
offers a full range of competition classes for beginners to advanced
riders. Exhibitors gain valuable experience in the show ring under the
eye of some of the country's top judges.
