SAUGERTIES, NY (July
26, 2006)—Jennifer Waxman, of Chagrin Falls,
Ohio rode Whitney Roper's Sister Parish
to the Grand Junior Hunter Championship with an
overall score of 85.17, in the sixth annual Show
Circuit Magazine/USEF National Junior Hunter Championships
- East Coast at HITS' world-class equestrian facility
in Saugerties, NY, July 24-26.

Emily Smith, of Wellington, Florida, showered
her with compliments."She rode beautifuly
under pressure," said Smith. "She stayed
calm and executed with some smart riding."
Waxman received the
Show Circuit Magazine Perpetual Trophy,
a crystal trophy that she will be able to display
until next year's championships and a Pessoa saddle.
The competition was
conducted over two days in three separate phases:
Under Saddle that counted 20%, Handy Hunter that
counted 30%, and a single Classic Round that counted
50%.
Waxman was in control
from the start in the Large Junior Hunter 15 &
Under Division. After the first two phases of
Tuesday's competition, she had 43.50 points aboard
Sister Parish. Paulena Johnson and Saving
Grace were in second place nearly three full
points behind. In Wednesday's Classic Round, Waxman
again had the highest score of 83.33, propelling
her to the triumph. Finishing second were Sara
Green and Wellington, while Taylor Brown
and Oniedan were third. Johnson and Saving
Grace finished fourth.
According to Smith,
Sister Parish had not competed in a while
and this was the horses' welcome back party. "I
am so happy for the owner (Roper)."For this
horse to come out over these last few days and
win Grand Champion was truly amazing. It's actually
like a dream."
In the Small Junior
Hunter 15 & Under, Kacey McCann and Fernwalk
secured the blue-ribbon with a total score of
83.20. But Waxman and Vanity wouldn't be
far behind, as they finished in second place with
a total score of 82.40. McCann was second in Tuesday's
USHJA Hunterdon Cup, presented by World Equestrian
Brands. The 16-year-old from Palmyra, Pennsylvania
was also fourth in the 2005 ASPCA Maclay National
Championships. She prides herself on being an
avid reader and considers Cruel Intentions her
favorite movie.
Grand Junior Hunter
Reserve Champion went to Intermezzo owned
by Joan Ehrhart and ridden by Megan Massaro, of
Summerfield, Florida. In the Large Junior Hunter
16-17, Massaro and Intermezzo came from
behind after falling into fifth place at the conclusion
of phase one. However, by the time phase two was
over she had 42 total points and was in the lead
heading into Wednesday's Classic Round. In the
Classic Round, she extended her lead even more,
notching the rounds top score, giving her a total
of 83.50 points. Maria Schaub and Likewise
were second, while Addison Phillips was third
aboard Who's on First. Phillips, 17, was
the winner of the 2006 USHJA Hunterdon Cup, presented
by World Equestrian Brands, on Tuesday.
Massaro is 17 and
will attend the University of South Carolina next
year on a full-athletic scholarship to compete
on its Equestrian team. The Gamecocks won the
Equestrian National Championship last year. When
Massaro is not in the ring, she enjoys surfing,
snowboarding and hanging out with her friends
back at Belleview High School, where she had a
GPA over 4.0.
Massaro, who has
been riding horses since she was 4-years-old,
stays sharp training at Don Stewart Stables in
Reddick, Florida. "I'm
a big animal lover," said Massaro. "My
horses are my best friends and I feel like I was
always meant to ride."
In the Small Junior
Hunter 16-17,Thursday Night, ridden by
Alex Paradysz claimed the title. Paradysz is from
Millneck, New York and is trained by Pamela Polk
and Bill Cooney. Maggie McAlary and Bold Venture
were second, while Wunder Light, ridden
by Sloan Coles rounded out the top three. Massaro
would finish 10th aboard Lyle.
Show
Jumping at HITS Saugerties continues Wednesday
through Sunday with competitions in up to 10 show
rings. Week V culminates with the $75,000 In The
Woods Grand Prix, presented by RV Sales of Broward,
on July 30. On August 6, the circuit ends with
the $75,000 Footings Unlimited Grand Prix. For
