OCALA, FL (February
24, 2006) -- For the second week in a row, Callan Solem and Mianta led the victory gallop in the $25,000 HITS Ocala Grand Prix. Solem's
winning time was just a nose and three hundreds of a second faster
than second place finisher, Aaron Vale on Arriscraft Soliel.
Vale who had three
horses in the jump-off, also
placed third and fourth with Romulus 16 and Serval respectively.
Aaron Vale opened the jump-off round on Serval, setting the standard
with a time to beat of 35.66 seconds.
Callan Solem was next to go and she kept a close eye
on Aaron Vale's track in the
freshly
dragged ring. "When I went to turn back to the last line, I saw
I was just outside of Aaron Vale’s horse's footprints. Even though
Mianta is a little bit faster across the ground than his horse (Serval),
I
thought for sure he could beat me on another horse later, and he almost
did."
Kyle King and Kosta, winners of the $25,000 HITS Ocala Grand Prix in
week I, were next to go. King's time was fast, but a rail down at fence
no. 2, a square 4'9" oxer, put him in sixth place.
Kate Bomgaars' careful time of 36.80 seconds aboard On Line was good
enough for fifth place.
Aaron Vale wasted no time with Arriscraft Soliel. They were lightning-fast,
and it almost looked like he had it, but with 34.95 on the clock he came
a mere three hundreds of a second shy. Callan Solem who watched his round
while walking Mianta, said "I definitely thought I was getting the red
ribbon."
Vale took second place with Arriscraft Soliel. He finished out the competition
on Romulus 16, and after posting a time of 35.13, Callan Solem was assured
of her blue ribbon and could rejoice in her win.
"Carol Thompson who I work for just arrived
this week and she is part-owner of Mianta, so I was really glad to have
her around for a win. It was really fun," remarked Callan Solem.
The next Grand
Prix show jumping event at HITS Ocala will be the $50,000 Footings
Unlimited Grand
Prix on
February 26.
