SAUGERTIES,
NY (July 26, 2006)—Seventeen-year-old
high school track star Addison Phillips and Icon
sprinted past everyone that stood in their way,
en route to the 2006 USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation, sponsored
by World Equestrian Brands, at HITS' state-of-the-art
equestrian facility, in Saugerties, NY.
"This class
is really fun," said Phillips, who is known
by her friends as "Addie," as she was
being congratulated by her supporters at the in-gate.
"I have a lot of friends that ride in this
class and it was nice to all compete together."
Addie is one of the
top junior riders in the country. She was second
only to Brianne Goutal in the 2005 ASPCA Maclay
National Championships. Ironically, she lives
on Park Avenue, in New York City, in the same
building as Goutal.
The class was open
to any rider that has won a USEF/Pessoa Medal,
ASPCA Maclay, USEF Show Jumping Talent Search,
or WIHS Classic from the beginning of the qualifying
classes' respective qualifying dates through July
1, 2006.
Addie
scored a 90 in the first round of the class, giving
her the early lead. After the round of 29 riders
was completed, the riders with the top 10 scores
were invited back for a second round of action.
An astounding 91 for Addie in the second round
all but assured her of the title as she took a
commanding lead heading into the final round.
In
the third round, the top four riders faced off
one last time, with the first and second place
riders switching horses and the third and fourth
place riders doing the same. Kacey
McCann would finish as the Reserve Champion.
Addie,
who owns six horses, also rides in the grand prix
and had a top 10 finish in last Thursday's $25,000
HITS Grand Prix. "It's aways helpful to go
in the big ring," she said. "Sometimes
you can get lost in there, so I like to go in
the grand prix ring as much as I can."
Addie
trains with Andre Dignelli who runs Heritage Farm
with his brother Michael. When Addie is not in
the ring, you can find her at The Chapin School,
in Manhattan, where she runs track and hangs out
with her friends.
Show
Jumping at HITS Saugerties continues Wednesday
through Sunday with competitions in up to 10 show
rings. Week V culminates with the $75,000 In The
Woods Grand Prix, presented by RV Sales of Broward,
on July 30. For more information please, call
845.246.8833 during the week and 845.246.5515

the two permanent vendor buildings and the more
traditional Vendor Courtyard that form the HITS

fine jewelry, custom footwear, art, photography,
souvenirs and an ice cream parlor, serving Starbucks
Coffee with wireless Internet access.
