HITS Coachella is Heating Up


Kyle King and Annika Singh take Top Honors during Week VI of the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit
Competition is heating up during the second half of the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit. From Hunter Prix to Grand Prix, riders are giving it their all to claim top honors in featured classes. Riders continue to earn points toward the Adeptus 2nd-Half Circuit and HITS Overall Grand Circuit Champion awards, as well as the Summit Joint Performance and KindredBio Leading Rider awards.

Cassio Rivetti made his way to the Winner’s Circle once again in the $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Open Welcome. This week's win was aboard CARLO in a time of 38.703.
  • 2nd Place: Will Simpson & WHOOP DE DOO (39.624)
  • 3rd Place: Eric Navet & CYRANO VDV (41.457)
Simpson followed up his strong finish in the Welcome with a victory in the $30,000 SmartPak Grand Prix on Friday. His ride aboard WHOOP DE DOO in 34.629.
  • 2nd Place: Karl Cook & CAILLOU 24 (35.325)
  • 3rd Place: Richard Fellers & NINOU 2 (37.333)
Richard Spooner and ZUIDHOEVE took the blue ribbon in the $10,000 Summit Joint Performance Jumper Classic, as they raced through the timers in 37.378. It was a tight victory, by just two tenths of a second, but it pushed Spooner to a tie for third place in the Summit Joint Performance Leading Rider standings.
  • 2nd Place: Hallie Buttenwieser & EZMERALDA EH Z (37.513)
  • 3rd Place: Gareth Graves & BILLY PUKKA (44.108)
Russell Morgan produced the winning round in the $15,000 KindredBio Jumper Classic aboard JERONIMO BISSCHOP in a time of 42.716. With the victory, Morgan jumped into the top five in the KindredBio Leading Rider standings.                 
  • 2nd Place: Julia Nagler & KILLOSSERY KUIDAM (43.536)
  • 3rd Place: Trudi Fletcher & GEE WHIZ (44.269)
Top honors in the $1,000 Charles White Hay Sales U25 Classic were awarded to Shawn Casady for his ride aboard CICOMEIN VDL.

Alexis Sokolov & SCARFACE took top honors in the $3,000 Junior 1.20m Jumper Classic, with Emily Cake & FLEUR taking the blue ribbon in the $3,000 A-O/Am 1.20m Jumper Classic.

The blue ribbon in the $5,000 Jr/A-O/Am 1.35m Jumper Classic went to Lindsay Sceats for her ride aboard THE CLOSER. 

Vanessa Haas Hood & STOKKHOLM jump to a first place finish in the $10,000 Jr/A-O/Am 1.45m Jumper Classic.
Kyle King and ENZO were first to return in the jump-off in the $70,000 Purina Animal Nutrition Grand Prix and did not hold back. A quick, clean jump-off in 40.543 would be strong enough to fend off six other challengers for the blue ribbon.

  • 2nd Place: Savannah Jenkins & QUITANA 11 (41.350)
  • 3rd Place: Laura Hite & CALYPSO VD ZUUTHOEVE (43.734)
 
Friday was Hunter Prix day in the Main Hunter Ring at HITS Coachella, with the Platinum Performance and Devoucoux Hunter Prix, qualifiers for the HITS Championship, September 4-8 in Saugerties, New York.

Top honors in the $1,500 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix were awarded to Jamie Krupnick, pictured on the left below, for the second week in a row, once again aboard CONUX. Krupnick scored an 83 in each of her rounds for a cumulative score of 166.
  • 2nd Place: Irene Neuwirth & TWINKLE TOES (165.5)
  • 3rd Place: Adrienne Berg & SWAN SONG (165)
Junior rider Annika Singh, and her mount VIRGINIA Z, would claim top honors in the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix, holding off a strong challenge by Michael Dennehy who finished in second and third place. Singh, pictured above on the right, scored an 86 in the first round of competition and followed up with an 84 for a two round total of 170 and the blue ribbon.
  • 2nd Place: Michael Dennehy & HULLA-BALOU (168)
  • 3rd Place: Dennehy & GEORGIAN BAY (167.5)
The HITS Coachella Desert Circuit enters its final weeks with a slate of special classes building up to the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix. Week VII hosts the $1,500 USHJA Pony Hunter Derby as well as the Marshall & Sterling Children’s and Adult Hunter & Jumper Team Challenges. Week VIII features World Championship Hunter Rider week, a $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, and the Seventh-Annual AIG $1 Million Grand Prix.
